Re: GTX345R
When flying IFR, I will fly with my iPad connected to the GTX345 and my iPhone connected to my Stratus for backup. Incidentally, I’ve found that when I try to connect both via Bluetooth to the GTX345, they occasionally drop connection.

Re: GTX345R
I encountered this bug yesterday while flying around Fort Myers busy class C. There must have been more than several hundred aircraft in range.
I had my iPad with ForeFlight connected to FlightStream. I was able to see an aircraft visually and on my iPad less than 1m to my 3 o’clock and another less than 2-3 miles at 11 o’clock. On my MFD/PDF the aircraft’s were not there — ghosts, but the iPad reported it. So the bug must be something internal to displaying it.
This wasn’t the first time I’ve seen this (well not seen aircraft displayed), just the first time to know what behavior to look for.
I certainly feel this as a safety concern.

This implies the behavior is a G1000 issue that a 345 problem. Interesting. Display decluttering logic?ingramleedy wrote: Mon Mar 24, 2025 12:01 am I encountered this bug yesterday while flying around Fort Myers busy class C. There must have been more than several hundred aircraft in range.

Re: GTX345R
I'm able to consistently get this problem around busy airspace, it's very concerning! I think flying with the iPad is a requirement for sure now!
Here is a video comparing ForeFlight connected to the G1000 via FlightStream and what is being displayed by the MFD (GTX345R).
You can see an aircraft, N31920 to my left on the iPad/ForeFlight, but it is not showing on the MFD.
This flight was from leaving near LAL (Lakeland) during Sun 'n Fun traffic, so it was likely that I am hitting the aircraft limit of what the G1000/MFD/GDR345X is able to declutter correctly.
Garmin has put out an update that is logically smarter in how decluttering is done, ie declutter aircraft farther away. Diamond needs to get these updates out from a safety and situational awareness concern at least!

Re: GTX345R
It's buried in the release notes, but the version of the GTX345R software on all Diamond certified aircraft will only track up to 200 targets with no specification for how overflows are handled. My guess would be that's just a round-robin overwrite whenever an untracked target's position report is received. When you are flying in busy airspace and in flat lands, the potential for receiving position reports from more than 200 targets is very real. In the end, the targets that are displayed or not is effectively random, since aircraft that aren't even on your screen are overwriting the ones near you.
The GTX345R software, which is not available yet on Diamond certified aircraft, still limits to 200 targets but will always overwrite the target that is furthest away from you, which is a much safer strategy and keeps the aircraft that are on your screen from being bumped out of the target table.

Re: GTX345R
You need to scroll down further to see the GTX s/w version, but I suspect it will be 2.12 as it was in both my 2019 DA40NG and 2023 DA62.
Garmin released the fix to drop targets furthest away once there were over 200 was released in 2020. Diamond advised me at that time that they did not consider it a safety of flight issue.
If you're flying VFR within 100nm of a metro area, then as Wayne and Ingram suggest, use Foreflight to track traffic. If you rely on the MFD, you are at much greater risk for a mid-air collision. If you're flying IFR, ATC should be providing separation.

Re: GTX345R
I'm a bit confused. By what route is the ADS-B data being fed to iPad/FF? Is it the 345R via BT to the iPad or routed somehow through the G1000 via FlightStream. I didn't know FS would route EDS-B IN data.ingramleedy wrote: Sat Apr 12, 2025 2:54 pm I'm able to consistently get this problem around busy airspace, it's very concerning! Re: GTX345R
Unless there is precipitation on their radar, ATC has no idea if your are flying in IMC or VMC. They are always responsible for separation of aircraft on an IFR plan. That of course does not remove the pilot's responsibility as PIC.dant wrote: Sun Apr 13, 2025 3:41 pm* in IMCIf you're flying IFR, ATC should be providing separation.
