TKS tanks and front baggage weight limit question
Everyone,
I know this is probably a stupid question, but searching has not rendered an answer.
I am a “new to me” DA42 NG owner and I am trying to make sure I am properly calculating front baggage weight properly. My question is: does the weight of a full TKS tank on the NG model subtract from the allowance of 66 LBS in the front baggage area? If so it would seem the full TKS tank is actually a fuzz more in weight than the allowance of 66 LBS.
Thanks for the help in answering this question. I have searched the POH with no answer found.

Re: TKS tanks and front baggage weight limit question
Jonathan,
If you have a full TKS tank, my general rule is, don’t put any more weight up front. Unless you have AC, or weights in the back, CG is usually too forward already.

Re: TKS tanks and front baggage weight limit question
Jonathan - As stated by Emir, the TKS tank and the nose baggage compartment are separate items on the W&B loading. So the weight of the TKS fluid does not count against the 66lbs load limit for the nose compartment. From a practical perspective, I am usually flying with full or almost full TKS. I still am able to carry loads in the front baggage compartment but I am watching the W&B.

Re: TKS tanks and front baggage weight limit question
Thank you Trevor! That answers my question. I was not sure if it went against the 66 LB load limit or not.
On a side note, I am pretty sure we bumped into each other outside of Absolute Aero on Nov 27th. I was just picking up my plane with the ferry pilot. Thank you for all of your great content on Youtube. It helped with my purchasing decision!

Jonathan - Wow, small world ... yes that was me at Absolute! I was dropping off 62DL for it's annual. I hope you are enjoying the new bird!

Re: TKS tanks and front baggage weight limit question
I think it was an excellent question.
So the 66 lb nose and 100 lb rear baggage weight limits are for what, structural reasons, not so much the W&B? Perhaps those weights are the limit of what the floor can safely hold?
