Re: Engine failure on Astro DA42-VI
The text below the YouTube video seems to explain what. Now the question is why? The typical culprit is a lack of oil.
On the way to the home base ESOW the left engine hade some kind of explosion and stopped to function. Total engine failure. The root cause are yet unknown. The first piston melted in the first cylinder of the engine, intital findings.

No, it is not the lack of oil. The oil level was checked before the flight and it was on more then 3/4. Engine failure happened just 15 minutes after the take off. The engine will be sent to Austro for further inspection, probably during this week.

how many hours on the engine? any hints prior to the failure. What phase of flight did the problem begin. Glad you made it.

Glad everything turned out ok and you made it down safely. As reliable as these Diesel engines are, they are still mechanical devices subject to failure. Definitely a cautionary tale and a reminder to keep those single-engine skills sharp and ready to go at any time.

My first post here.
Looking forward to hearing why it stopped, when they get back to you with a reason.
A 42 is on my short list of new planes to buy.
Really want a G650, but my bank account, and short runway, say that isn't happening.
