Re: A very big deal -- FAA Approves G100UL for ALL GA piston spark-ignition aircraft
I watched a video of GAMI's presentation on this at Sun N Fun. The roll out in California seems to be on the verge of happening. The Governor wants G100UL in all airports by the end of the year. Doubt that is feasible but shows the amount of pressure to get this done. One thing I learned about the fuel. It weighs from 6.1 to 6.3 lb/gal. Apparently 100LL varies in weight but can be as low as 5.6 lb/gal. However, GAMI and Cirrus have both conducted tests showing that G100UL has 4% more energy (BTUs) per gallon than 100LL and 9-10% more than 100LL with ETBE - an oxygenate gasoline additive (not sure how you know if your 100LL has it.) Thus, GAMI claims this is a wash, i.e., the fuels weighs more but you'd need less of it for a given range.

I'm all for the GAMI formulation. I'll stir up the codgers in my area about this and watch the "whatever it is, I'm against it" crowd.

Hmm, Sent to GAMI:
Trying to purchase G100UL STC but will only accept 3 characters for registration number. What's up with that?
Disappointed!!!

Funny, I put in 40.277 for my "airframe serial number" and it took it.

Registration number is the problem. In my experience, the N-number appears in the STC. What did you enter for that?blsewardjr wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 8:27 pm Funny, I put in 40.277 for my "airframe serial number" and it took it.

Yes and no in terms of being a wash. G100UL has a higher energy density and higher mass density. This actually has a small potential increase in power actually. From a practical point of view, it means that you might have to pull the mixture back a tiny bit (roughly 4% I think was the number discussed on one presentation, e.g. in the noise level). The real impact will be felt on the W&B.blsewardjr wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 8:05 pm I watched a video of GAMI's presentation on this at Sun N Fun. For me, the W&B is minuscule: 40 gal, the difference is 12 lb. At 50 gal, 15 lb.
I personally have lost 13 lb in the last 6 months. And the lies your passengers tell you are at least that much.

Rich- I don't see a request for "registration number". It asks for airframe serial number and tail number. Here's the site I'm looking at -- https://stc.g100ul.com/aircraft/ Bernie
