Has this happened to any owners purchasing new planes that were manufactured at the Austrian plant?
My DA62, delivered at the end of June, was manufactured in Austria, originally flew with an Austrian registration, was flown to Canada, and reregistered with a US "N" number.
I've owned half a dozen planes previously and knew I probably needed to register the ELT with Sarsat. First I had to find the Hex ID - this wasn't easy as it was buried deep in over a hundred pages of the "build book" (detailing STCs like the Beringer brakes, minor QA issues and the final flight check out).
After I found this number and entered it at the Sarsat website, it told me that this was an unregisterable Austrian ELT. I'm now being told by a factory representative that it needs to be removed and reprogrammed to the US registration.
It seems to me that, given the number of imported planes, that this process would be automatic and routine. So, that comment seems a little off.
Has anyone had this sort of experience? If so, how did you resolve?

Re: Austrian ELT
STC for DA62 is done.
Mine were installed at the London, Ont. facility before delivery. I believe they are standard equipment for new deliveries.
They sure are pretty....

Re: Austrian ELT
I'd propose a "box exchange" where they send you or your MX provider a US-registered one, and you return the Austrian one. This assumes it's the same model ELT.

Re: Austrian ELT
My DA40NG was delivered with the transponder (GTX345R) and ELT programmed with the tail number of an Indiana based Cessna. The tail number was not even close to the factory assigned N-number. This was politely pointed out by ATC when the number in their radar didn't match the filed flight plan. It went to three shops before I found someone who could correctly program the N-number into the GTX345R. They did the ELT at the same time.
