KAP-140 R & P fail + manual electric trim fail

Post by SkymanIL »

42-NG.
Following KAP-140 self test, both P and R LEDs are on. Both dashed line groups displayed.
Manual electric trim does not work.

I saw on the DA40 sections discussions of R failures due to Turn Indicator but did not see a full failure such as this being discussed.

Any pointer of where to start looking will be appreciated. We don't have easy access to KAP-140 technicians.

A bad autopilot disconnect button (either pilot or copilot) will cause this.

I had this failure and bad autopilot disconnect switch was the cause. As a quick fix I unscrewed red cap and cleaned the switch with a bit of WD40. It was ok for few days and then the mechanic replaced both switches - problem solved.

One other thing. Pull the unit out and re-seat. I've had this cure such a problem.

Both disconnect switches were tested and are functioning but the issue persists. Will try replacing the unit once we find a suitable one.

A technician connected to the KAP-140 and the message, as seen in the attached picture, appeared.

He believes that the data in the Configuration Module was erased and has to be re-loaded.

Does anyone have access to this data file, by any chance?

Or do you think it may be something else?

The Configuration Module (KCM100) is a separate box that contains parameters for the specific airframe. Connection problem between the KC140 and the KCM 100?

Getting the KCM 100 data right for the plane is likely to require some special skills. It has to inform the parameters by which the AP as a whole manages the servos with respect to nav inputs and deviations. You can't just grab a file from another plane and call it good - particularly a different aircraft type.

Diamond should have some information about how these parameters are set for 42's of your configuration, if not your exact airframe.
