DA62 Rear Seats

Post by Kevincejnar »

Having received my new DA62 I have been sitting in the rear for the first few flights whilst we get some pilots trained up.

I have to say the rear seats are without doubt the most uncomfortable things I can ever recall sitting in, it pretty much feels like there is a boot pushed in your lower back for the entire journey. I can’t really understand why anyone would design a seat so ergonomically terrible, but life is what it is, and I suppose I can try and retrofit the two rear seat option, but before I do this has anyone managed to find a practical solution ? after about 7 hours on several trips I managed to get a pillow in a place that was semi bearable.

So anyone else had this experience and any smart solutions or advice out there ?

Cheers.

I'm not sure if you're talking about the middle passenger row seats, or the 2 optional seats in the rear of a 7-seater.

If the middle row, I'd suggest a simple solution of installing sheepskin seat covers -- they're available for the pilot/copilot seats and the middle row of passenger seats. Not only do they keep you warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer (how do they know? ;) ), but they protect the leather from wear, and the extra padding makes sitting hours in the plane far more comfortable.

We've heard nothing but praise from passengers (who are often other pilots) sitting in our DA62's middle row equipped with sheepskins.

Hi Dave,
I'm just about to order the sheepskin seat covers, in another thread we talked about them - which color matches the beige leather interior that is in your and my airplanes?

Did you ever get a chance to check? from Covercraft (aerosheep)'s website, to me it looks like the "sand" color or is it "ivory".

Thanks

Ok looks like it may be a good solution. - I was indeed talking about the middle row, But I had the 5 seat option anyway. Can you send me the link for ordering please.

I have the beige interior in my new DA62 and had Covercraft send me samples. "Sand" is the best match.

Any further updates on the Covercraft sheepskin covers? I have the orange paint/black interior but was considering charcoal covers. I will call and get samples of black and charcoal. Any further PIREPs on the covers? Thanks!!

I have dealt with this issue in my DA42's FRONT seats. It's crazy they can sell a plane for almost a million bucks with horrible padding on the seats. Luckily it's an easy fix: get these https://www.oregonaero.com/accessories/ ... e-cushions - specifically the model with the back and lumbar support. Yes, it's clunky. And yes, it is $250 (with lumbar support). But it is worth every penny.

Before I got them, I could barely stay in the plane for 30 minutes before begging to land. Now, we've done several 7h flights (flying around the world), with little complaint.

Has anybody here tried the optional two seat middle row? Are these any better?

The two seat option is not yet approved in the US. I think it’s available only in the EU.
