Santa’s runway

Post by CBeak »

So a friend’s child asked me about Santa taking off from the North Pole. She wondered if he actually has a runway for that. And as I pondered the question it occurred to me that IF there is one and it actually sits centered on the pole….that would be runway 36/36. Wouldn’t that create chaos on the CTAF? Or is that mitigated by the fact that only ONE aircraft uses it?

Oops…Forgot that would only be true if Santa operates from the magnetic North Pole.

I'm not quite sure of the runway identifier, but Santa definitely has an instrument approach because as we all know, the North Pole is subject to IMC at that time of year...and according to the Jepp chart, the final approach course is 360!

So I think the OP should show this to their friend's child ... that might give her a little comfort that Santa is going to be safe on his flight!

Excellent! Can’t believe I didn’t even think to Google it. In retrospect, it’s pretty clear that somebody would have done this
