Migrating birds

Last year, flying SW in the spring at 10,500', roughly 6,000' AGL, I saw a flock of geese flying roughly NE,
above me.

On one of my first coast-to-coast flights, returning west alone and flying into the ABQ valley, I slipped a couple hundred feet under a HUGE V of migratory birds, duck-shaped and smallish. I was shocked to see them up at 10,500. I told ATC. “Albuquerque Center, this is One Rome Delta, flock of fifty birds eastbound same altitude half a mile off our left wing.”
“One Romeo Delta, roger. Can you tell what sort of birds they were?”
“Looked to be ducks.”
“What sort of ducks?”
“Um, we weren’t that close.”
Laughing, “Okay, thanks, we’ll put it in.”
Is someone reporting "Merganzers, on a 220 heading?"
