Interesting report. Of note, the accident aircraft had 4,855 hours on it and was being used for flight instruction.

Another one at Ft. Lauderdale over the last weekend.

Can't find any details. But it, too, is an older one. Hours or Years?

Not recurring anymore. New AD mandates replacement of all _0 and _1 parts within 24 months.

I was just quoted $6079 CAD for the part, or about $4577 USD. Is that reasonable? Certainly sounds like a windfall for Diamond...

I ended up paying $3,899.00 for the leg (P/N D41-3223-10-00_2-ASY which was a bit less expensive because it requires the shop to drill holes for the fairing.) I was initially quoted 6-8 weeks but this part was available immediately. I would order ASAP since the entire fleet will need to replace this soon. Plus two and a half hours of labor. And hundreds of dollars in shipping.

So this part is OK for those of us without that fairing?

My understanding is it should work for anyone, just requires (seemingly simple) modification if you have the fairing (pictured below).

I also recently bought the no-drilled version for a similar amount since I don't have the fairings. The receipt lists it as D41-3223-10-00-ASY

Asking forgiveness from Greg Bell, who sent me this picture of the one he got, which appears to have those holes/nutplates. So he probably got the "deluxe" version.

What is the status of the AD for US or EASA registered aircraft?
