G1000 Data Logging
I recently purchased a 2007 DA40 XL non-WAAS with synthetic vision and I have been unable to get the flight data logging to work, despite numerous calls with Garmin. I have formatted several different SD cards fo the top slot of my MFD. Occasionally I can get the unit to recognize the card which I verify on one of the Aux page that tells you if it recognizes the card, but the next time I fly, it tells me no card. My unit is running software version 0321.22 and I am looking for guidance prior to visiting my Garmin dealer. Any advice?

Re: G1000 Data Logging
Older software doesn’t support logging. 0321.23 that requires WAAS will enable flight logging on an SDcard.

Re: G1000 Data Logging
I don't think that's accurate. We had flight logging on our 2007 XL for years without WAAS. Assuming the top card reader is working properly for database updates, I'd check the SD card size (needs to be 4GB or smaller?) and format (needs to be FAT, IIRC). And of course make sure the card isn't write-protected.

Re: G1000 Data Logging
I have tried 8, 4 and 2 gig so cards no joy. If I go into the maintenance menu it will recognize the card on the first time I cycle the power after exiting the menu, but no luck afterwards.

Re: G1000 Data Logging
Mine is 321.22 and data logging works. Try this:
4 GB SD Card settings: FAT32 / 4096 / ~3.8 GB.
Uncheck quick format

Re: G1000 Data Logging
And it needs to be a plain old SD card. NOT an HC (High Capacity) SD card. Even some of the 2 and 4s are HCSD cards. For our older planes (mine is 2007 XL), the HC SD cards don't work. Make sure it doesn't say HC anywhere on the card. Mine will occasionally not log, I think due to poor card contacts, and just popping it out and back in fixes it. Somewhere in the Aux pages, there is a field for data logging, that shows either 'logging', or blank, if I recall correctly. So you can just look there, you don't need to take it back to a computer and check.

Re: G1000 Data Logging
Low capacity SanDisk SD cards are getting scarce, while microSD SanDisk variants are still widely available.
But probably not for long. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
For logging, I switched to a SanDisk microSD with an adapter, which works great. The adapter is easy to replace, usually no extra charge, and should be available indefinitely.

This is probably a good place to mention https://www.flysto.net as a resource for analyzing your G1000-captured flight information. Other options are Flight Data (https://www.flightdata.com/) and Cloud Ahoy (https://www.cloudahoy.com/). FlySto has recently added some nice analytics for takeoffs and landing. It's still in development and currently free.

For paying customers, Savvy provides a very impressive comparison of your aircraft to its "cohorts". Here is the Cohort Analysis that compares 707 of my DA40 (N211WP) flights to 11,382 flights of 171 other DA40s. For those who haven't seen one of these reports, well, you should check it out!

Re: G1000 Data Logging
So I tried the full format on an older 4gb SD card and no luck, I also cycled the card in and out numerous times, but I question dirty contacts as it uploads the nav DB ok. Tomorrow I will check with Garmin to verify if version 0321.22 supports data logging, and if not off to the dealer. Thanks for all of the great suggestions.
