Re: Rotating Tires to Even Out Wear- DA-40
Since we are in depth on tire wear, if the tires are wearing evenly and no cord is showing, what is a safe tread wear margin to run the tires to until definite replacement is required?

Re: Rotating Tires to Even Out Wear- DA-40
This is a current photo after my recent annual. We rotated the tires so the less worn part (deeper channels) is on the outside, where it will now catch up with the wear on the inner part of the tire.
In my previous flying club we let tires wear until there was no channel left. I’ve had a flat on a runway so I plan to replace mine sooner than that, probably when the channel gets to 1 mm anywhere on the tire, but I don’t have any good data to support that practice. AVWeb has a good article about when to replace tires based on other factors. Search for “Aircraft Tire Selection and Maintenance.”. 2019
