The owner can hopefully enjoy mass-production parts costs and parts availability rather than being in the niche engine category
It’s too heavy and I doubt it would fit any SEP that needs up to 170 HP. It’s engine for Diamonds and I doubt it will change.

Benz's OM654 4-cylinder diesel is an aluminum block. 370 lbs dry weight. 40 lbs lighter than the Austro.

There are versions that make 245 hp

I thought Austro current iron block was too heavy. Of course aluminium one is lighter - that's what Continental engines use.

I was lamenting that Austro locked themselves in design with the AE300/330 rather than focusing on bringing in a new Benz iteration every decade or so. They could focus on being conversion specialists, rather than take on manufacturing of a retired engine.

Benz makes millions of engines per year. Leave the manufacturing to them.

Totally agree. I don't understand why they persist on this strategy for DA40/42/62 while for DA50 they chose Continental again.

Certification must be just that frustrating?

Wish there were a different standard for multi engines. Follow the same certification "philosophy" as the Austro so agencies can streamline the approval process.

Single engine, I'd want a little more shrewd process.

It would be nice to get recent info on CD-155/135 engine pricing for comparison but I believe it’s in the same ballpark. Plus any other mandatory work/replacement on each engine during lifetime to get full picture of per hour cost.

You'd think there's somewhere in the world where a 3rd-party engine shop could overhaul Austro Engines for less than the cost of new engines (it only takes 5 days of labor according to Austro's newsletter). Austro should have actively facilitated and encouraged this before discontinuing all overhauls! :x
