Re: Fuel Quantity Measuring Device
If you do have one, make sure it is the correct one for your aircraft. My 2008 DA40 XLS with 50 gallon tanks came with the 40 gallon fuel measurement device (multiple previous owners). Assuming Diamond originally shipped the plane new with the correct device, somewhere along the way it got swapped for the wrong one. Lifestyle was good enough to swap me for the correct one.

Re: Fuel Quantity Measuring Device
I couldn't find anything in the AFM requiring it to be on board. I left mine in the hangar for years, afraid that it would get broken if I left it in the airplane. More recently, I have been keeping it in the airplane, and found a good way to mitigate the chance of having it broken. I bought a neoprene wireless keyboard sleeve from Amazon:

Should be a bit more protected from accidental bumps and kicks from the rear seat pax...

Re: Fuel Quantity Measuring Device
The requirement for DA40-180s is in the AMM Operating Limitations, page 2-20. The fuel measuring device is listed as required as part of the Minimum Operational Equipment for Day VFR flight.

Re: Fuel Quantity Measuring Device
For DA42:
It's under 2.13 Minimum Operational Equipment (Serviceable): Alternate means for fuel quantity indication (see Section 7.9)
Then 7.9.4 depicts the Alternate Means For Fuel Quantity Indication

Re: Fuel Quantity Measuring Device
Thanks for the reference. I remember hearing that it had to be kept on board somewhere, but couldn't find the specific section. Probably because I was looking at 7-35 (fuel)...

Re: Fuel Quantity Measuring Device
Has anyone been able to verify that it measures accurately on a "Dash-6"? I have tried it a couple of times recently on mine. The indication bore no resemblance to what was in the tanks. I recall using one on a DA42TDI I trained on and it was reasonably accurate.
