If you can rent, borrow, download, stream, or buy this DVD/BluRay: "Flying the Feathered Edge," it's the amazing story of Bob Hoover and his flying career. http://www.thebobhooverproject.com

In addition, I also highly recommend you listen to Bob's very engaging and humorous talk at the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum from 2010: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXyDRG9za3c

As a kid, my father took me to airshows to watch Bob fly his Shrike Commander with engines shut down. And I was fortunate enough to hear him speak at the warbirds area of Oshkosh AirVenture a few short years ago.

He will surely be missed...

My friend Kim Furst directed the Bob Hoover movie. (I took her family up in the DA40 and her three year old son got to fly for a little bit over Van Nuys. He totally connected the "pull back, stomach feels THIS way, push forward, stomach feels THAT way." His parents threw in the towel before I did.) It's a wonderful collection of his stories, performances and the story of his flying career.

It also allowed Bob to take the last few years of his life as a victory lap, touring the country with the movie, signing books afterwards (I got one for my brother), and talking to people in the audience. That's really a great way to wind it up, sort of an extended curtain call before they douse the lights.
