New (to me) Turbulence tool on AWC

Post by Chris B »

I happened to run across this new functionality tonight. Very cool. At least for the US. ;)

The ability to:
  1. slice the forecast by aircraft type (light/medium/heavy)
  2. combine or separate clear-air and mountain wave activity, and
  3. select altitudes as low as 1000'
is a huge upgrade!

Much easier than playing with Skew-T charts, and offers a similar forecast horizon (18 hrs). Hopefully it is reasonably accurate.

It's been on AWC for awhile (although it may have just been on weather.aero before), but I'm glad you posted it. In my experience, I've found the forecast on it to be pretty darn accurate (at least up in the flight levels). It's definitely the easiest way to get an idea of what kind of ride you can expect along your route.
