DA40 long range magic empty weight increase

Post by Bartek »

Hello,
I just had to weight my plane and what a suprice - after 4 years it got some 70 lbs lighter, no diet applied :)
Would be great if it's true, but I am wondering how could it happen.
Either magic with the current measurement or maybe some fuel was in the wings during the previouis one (combined with extended lagguage installation).
Could you please advice what empty weight you see in yours DA40, with similar to mine configuration? Mine is steam gauges, long range tanks (MTOW 1200kg) and extended lagguage compartment. The current empty mass is set to be 1762 lbs... Does it make sense?
Best,
Bartek

There had to be a weighing error, probably with the earlier measurement.
My 2003 DA40 which originally came equipped with steam gauges, standard tanks and standard baggage compartment weighed 1713 lbs. The XL DA40s (after around ser no 40.699) weigh 1800 or over. 1762 lbs seems very reasonable for your configuration. Post or PM me the serial number and I can give a range of weights for other DA40s made around the time yours was manufactured.

I'd settle for any of the empty masses mentioned so far. My DA40 TDI, with G1000, ADF, DMI, KAP 140 started out at 1834 lbs. Then I had the TAS 600 fitted last year at the factory in Austria, and that added an extra 29 lbs. Good to have though.

This is the extra useful load I wish I had! You really get a weight penalty with the G1000, traffic etc.

Not as much as it seems, since my aircraft has not had the GW increase SB done. So, my useful load is only 838#
