Re: Flap indicator light replacement
Does anyone have a suggestion for where I can get a replacement green lens for the UP flap light?
While changing the flaps UP position light bulb today, I dropped the green lens and after looking all over I was not able to find it. The new bulb works fine but I'm just missing the green lens. I also could not find a part number in the interactive catalog.
Thanks

Re: Flap indicator light replacement
I'm not sure if you can purchase just the plastic lens separately, but the "Bulb Holder, Green" part number from Diamond looks to be 1.02157.001-1502
I found that in the DA42 IPC under "Flight Controls->Flaps->Flap Selector Switch" but I'm sure it's the same assembly for the DA40. I didn't find it in the DA40 illustrated parts catalog either.
I guarantee the old one will show up right after you get the replacement installed.

Re: Flap indicator light replacement
Thanks Chris.
I found a couple of web site where you can order just the green lens for the RAFI bulb holder part number you indicated. 61 cents plus $9.99 shipping - probably the cheapest airplane part I have ever purchased!

Re: Flap indicator light replacement
While on this subject. I have the new bulbs but could really use some guidance on how to change the bulbs out. Do you pull them out from the front or back. Want to make sure I get this one right. Thanks so much.

Re: Flap indicator light replacement
Pull out from the front. Fingernail into the base of the lens allows popping it out. The bulbs are a bit trickier. I use a tweezers to grab the bulb and pull straight out - see my earlier post. The lens can become invisible if you drop it

Wow Rich thanks for the fast response. I have to tell you the good folks on this forum have saved me a fortune and just as important a bit smarter about my DA-40. Take care. Dave

Re: Flap indicator light replacement
There are other methods for grasping the bulb for removal. An appropriate size of heat shrink tubing, for example, has been recommended. Push it on, pull it out.

Re: Flap indicator light replacement
I received my 61 cent replacement green flaps-up indicator lens today! It came UPS Ground in a bit of excessive packaging but should work fine. Still by far the cheapest plane part I've ever purchased

Re: Flap indicator light replacement
Mark, maybe you can help me. Saw you replaced your flaps up indicator lens. Did you also replace the bulb and how the heck did you get the bulb out? I am being real careful as I do not want to break the burnt out bulb. Thanks Dave

Re: Flap indicator light replacement
I use a paper clip to pry the lens out an a piece of 12 gauge wire insulation to slide over the failed bulb and pull it out. It takes a bit of finagling but be patient to not break the bulb (or loose the lens!) in the process which can make it much bigger project. Below is the "flap indicator replacement kit" I keep in my flight bag.
