Another Newbie - Part III
Gascolator?
The factory checklist calls for draining it, but I can't find it. I see the vents and sumps for the wing and aux tanks, but no gascolator.
Is is really there? Where?

Re: Another Newbie - Part III
If its in the same place as the Austro DA42 VI, which I assume it is, it is on the bottom of the engine nacelle. Facing forwards, it is on the right side on both engines a couple of feet back from the prop. Same appearance as the fuel sump under the wings.

Re: Another Newbie - Part III
I misspoke ... they are on bottom on the inboard side of each nacelle!

Re: Another Newbie - Part III
It's inconsistent terminology on Diamond's part. "Gascolator" shouldn't appear in the DA62 AFM as it doesn't appear in the AMM. This is probably because the fuel system architecture is different (from the DA40NG that Boatguy is familiar with).
In the DA40NG, the gascolator (sump at the lowest part of the fuel system with a screen filter intended to catch sediment & water) is located before the fuel filter.
In the DA62, the screen filter (06) is upstream of a combined fuel filter and low-point water + sediment sump (04). This is being incorrectly (or at least inconsistently) called a gascolator. It will come down to whether or not a gascolator has more than a screen filter and is separate from the fuel filter. Let the debates begin!
Someone (who owns a DA62) should probably report this to their DASC so it gets into the Diamond Technical Support System (if it isn't already).

When I looked previously all I found was the sumps. I'll take a closer look and a photo, then report back.

Mike Meadows illustration matches the AMM in terms of count and locations. The forward sump/drain is the "gascolator" inconsistently referred to in the DA62 AFM.

And as you suggested, there they were, hiding in plane sight. I was looking for the pull down piece of the gascolator on the 40NG, but in the DA62 it's just another sump. None the less, there they are.
Thank you everyone.
Thank you everyone.

Rather than start a new thread, I'll add to this for anyone who might read it in the future.
The factory checklist has this line with respect to each gear:
"Tire condition, position mark"
I think I understand "tire condition". Are there flat spots, tread remaining, damage to tread or sidewall, etc.
What do they mean by "position mark"?

They are referring to the red marks on the tire and wheel hub, which should be aligned. If they are not, it indicates that the tire slipped on the wheel, usually due to low tire pressure combined with hard braking.
