RTW Trip approaching US and Ferry tank 100 gallons

Post by Michael GER »

Dear all,
We are currently on a RTW trip with our DA42 approaching the US within the next two to three weeks and would like to share our experience personally if someone is really interested to do the same.
Stations will be KMRY, KFUL, KAVX, KSEZ, KCOS, KBIF, KBCT, MYNN, KMCO, KLRO, KWWD, KHVN, KBGR
We also have a 100 Gallons Turtle pack incl. 24V pump for sale so that we don’t need to take it all the way back if someone is interested. Fits perfect for DA40/DA42. Asking 1200 US$ for everything (incl. quick release valves, etc.)
You can also track us under www.flyrtw.eu - page is in German but Google offers translation.
We are flying 100% private and are not supported or anything.

Michael:

Are you really stopping at KBIF? That is a US Army airfield. Although it is possible to land there, prior permission is required and there are a lot of restrictions. Are you sure you don't want to stop at KELP instead. That is 3 miles South of KBIF, and has the full array of services available.

Good catch Steve. KDNA to the west of El Paso is also a good option. Fascinating journey. Good luck with the Pacific legs.

At the risk of serious thread hijacking - you gotta go to Elemi in El Paso for the tacos. Exquisite.

Thank you for your advice - we will definitely change KBIF to one of the others. Our route for the US is only based on a few must stops (visiting relatives) and mostly can stops. If you have good suggestions for something special along the route - or instead which is worth going there we appreciate your ideas.

Let me know when you’ll be staying in KCOS and which FBO you’ll use, and I’ll try to meet you there.
