Re: DA62 sanity check on interior/radar
Thanks for the info! Actually, Garmin is delivering the GWX8000 into Piper M600s and TBM 960s with the G3000 system now, in addition to the G5000 systems. Not sure if they are also doing so for the HondaJet or the Citation M2 (also with the G3000), but if not, they soon will be. Haven’t seen it for any G1000 NXi installations yet but it is just a software upgrade from the 75.

Re: DA62 sanity check on interior/radar
I have owned (with a partner) planes that have had the 68,70,75 and 8000. The 70 is a nice improvement over the 68 and just makes things easier to understand. The 75 is a big improvement over the 70 and not only does a better job of painting weather but you can get it with terrain suppression and turbulence detection. I don't find the turbulence detection very useful. The 8000 is absolutely amazing and light years ahead of previous versions. If I had another son, I'd be tempted to name him GWX8000 it's that good. Particularly if you fly in areas without XM. I use these radars in the flight levels between FL260 and FL300. I have often wondered, at least in the US, how useful they would be at DA62 altitudes where you can't top any sort of convection and are really in the belly of the beast. I'm curious how you guys use your radars.
It's almost an insult to buy a new plane with 3 generation old radar. Cirrus, Piper and TBM all ship 75s and 8000s. Even Textron lets Mustang owners upgrade the 68 to the 75 and they stopped making that plane years ago. However the 70 works well and for what people use it for, it may be perfect. One thing for sure though is hoping Diamond will have something better soon is a mistake so I'd probably take the 70 if I needed radar.

If the 8000 is just a s/w upgrade from the 75, that's a huge reason to hold out for the 75.MackAttack wrote: ↑Mon Aug 08, 2022 6:36 pm Thanks for the info! Diamond is supposed to supply the 75 with NXi Phase 3. In February of 2021, they said it would be shipping in July 2021. Per the posting by Dave Passmore in another thread, that was rescheduled to March of 2022. It's now August 2022, so it seems like there is some chance it will come out before the 75 is also discontinued.
