Newbie Question 3 - Soft and Short Field

Post by nworthin »

Maybe I'm missing this but are there any formal Soft or Short field T/O procedures (as apart from grass or soft field performance adjustments)?

There’s so much weight on the nose wheel of the DA62, and it’s sprung so stiffly, that for rough fields (and grass) I hold the stick full aft on the takeoff roll to unload the nose wheel as soon as possible. Similarly, on landing, keeping the nose wheel off the surface as long as possible helps reduce shock loads on the nose gear and mounts. Basically, it’s standard soft field technique.

There are no short field takeoffs in a DA62. 😉

That's pretty much what I figured... Thx.
