Re: DA 40 Kap140 dont follow Route on Gns430
There may be more than one problem. I've experienced 172s with the KAP140 deciding to turn to the left for no good reason. It's usually indicative of a problem with the turn coordinator input to the KAP. But in my DA40 I had flaky behavior on a couple of flights that was due to a loose connector in the rear of my HSI (which of course has the CDI built in) that I easily corrected.
Since you don't own the plane, you should write up the symptoms you're experiencing and try to get the owner (or whatever) to get it into an avionics shop.

This is an all-too-common downside of renting. The 172s I mentioned were 2 that were both rented from a FBO in Everett, WA. Rather than get the problems fixed, he simply had the APs disabled (circuit breakers zip-tied open) and labeled "inoperative" and they've been that way for years.
