Smoke on the Bretfin
Hello,
I’m very happy with the Bret fin that I have.
I noticed sometimes that the fin has black smoke traces on the top. Usually after long flight in altitude.
I know that the exhaust is not very far but I’m surprised that the smoke is black.
What do you think?
Arnaud.

Probably need to lean more at higher altitudes.

Re: Smoke on the Bretfin
Curious, is there soot on the other side of the fin as well? One would think that if the fin was holding the nose wheel straight it would not be in the path of the exhaust.
Guessing this plane has the original exhaust.
(Picture for example, not the plane in question.)

Re: Smoke on the Bretfin
It was on both sides of the fin.
I was already lean like 8 gal.h

Re: Smoke on the Bretfin
I have the Bretfin and powerflow. I have never seen that smoke.
For me, 8 GPH would be on the rich side. I fly out of Denver Colorado and field elevation is 5800. I’m usually around 7.5 GPH in cruise. WOT and 2300 rpm. 8 GPH might be lean depending on the cruise altitude.
