See you all sometime later

Post by pietromarx »

Hi All -

My (second) DA-40-180 is in its new home with an excellent owner who has also had prior Diamond ownership.

I hope everyone flies straight, high, and safely.

I've enjoyed owning Diamonds now for two decades. They're almost everything one could want in an airplane.

Be well everyone. See you all again sometime soon.

My needs are the west coast and never in that much of a hurry. Hurry = grab an airline seat.

I think in order of appeal it have at least two or more of the following:

1. Fun
2. No integrated flight deck
3. Electric

I'm afraid the last is today rather unlikely. This said, I do love flying sailplanes ...

All the best for your new adventures! I‘d directly switch to electric if available with meaningful (2-3h flighttime+reserve). That said I am also sure that strapping a battery to the belly of a DA40 will not do the trick. Glide ratios of >1:20 are necessary and possible (see Bye Aerospace). I hope that Diamond internally already kicked off a clean sheet design to be in the market in a few years….

Diamond has already announced the eDA40 and it is definitely not a clean sheet design.

Yeah, I am aware. That’s what I meant with „strapping a batterie under the belly of a DA40“. The result is visible in their overly specific announcement of the flighttime:

„ Total flight time is expected to be up to 90 minutes as the battery technology evolves“

„As battery technology evolves…“ likely means the achieve 45mins today
