1. Do not use re-treaded tires.
2. Always do a gear-swing after wheel/tire change.

Re: DA42 Tires

Ordering some new main tires and tubes for my '42. IPC only lists a 15x6-6 tube but doesn't say if it is straight or bent valve stem and no part number is listed. My plan was to get the tires and tubes locally. Does anyone know if the tube is a straight or bent valve stem?

Thanks

Hi Doug,
I am pretty sure they are straight valve stem, otherwise the wheel cover plate won't fit over them. I won't be going out to the plane until next Sunday, so if someone else hasn't responded by then I will check on the plane and get back again.

Thanks Cary
They appear to be straight stemmed but thought I better ask. Unless I hear otherwise I'm going to order them tomorrow.

For future reference the main tubes on the DA42 are a TR20 - straight stem.

Circling back to the original question of tires/tubes, I'm looking at keeping the following tire and tube as a spare. Do these seem compatible with the DA42? One specific concern I had is the tube says "WILL NOT WORK WITH HUBCAPS." Does that mean it's not compatible with the dust cap?

Awesome; that’s great to hear! Do you know if the tire and tube I linked will work? I’m not mechanically inclined at all, and don’t want to mistakenly spend 300$!

Gear getting stuck up after installing an alternate tyre has happened so many times that Diamond now requires retractions to be performed and the tyre clearance to be checked after every wheel/tyre change. The crown of a DA42 tyre has a flattened appearance, more like a car tyre, most other aircraft tyres are rounded profile.
