My Champion Thin Wire plugs need replacing.
I currently have Champion thin wire plugs with about 800 hobbs hours on them. Even though I lean aggressively when I taxi, I am now getting fouled plug(s) in the run up. I am thinking of replacing them with Tempest Thin Wire plugs. Wondering if anyone has pireps on the Tempest plugs. Also, what is the proper part number for the Tempest plugs for the DA 40? Thanks.

Not sure of the part number, but I had them for almost a decade in our DA40 and they were flawless.

Same here, they work great. I had to replace one or two at annuals due to wear or cracking (not sure) but whatever the reason, it had no noticeable effect on performance.

I've had the Tempest fine-wires in my DA40 for 10 years, too, with no problems. They are part number "UREM38S" according to my log book.
Edit: fixed the part number to avoid future confusion

For Tempest plugs there is a "U" in the part number: UREM38S.

Thanks, Rich - you are correct. They are UREM38S plugs. I found the invoice, looks like the "U" got dropped in the logbook entry.

Re: My Champion Thin Wire plugs need replacing.
I replaced all my champion fine wire with tempest after testing resistance and finding the Champion all out of spec with way too high resistance.
I only have about 500 hours on them. I expect to get over 1000.
I lean to about 1.6-1.8 gph for taxi. I also cruise at least 50 LOP.
No fouling problems.

Re: My Champion Thin Wire plugs need replacing.
Lance, I've never had any fouling issues. I find some minor carbon deposits in the space around the insulators when I clean them, just like regular plugs, but never any fouling. I also aggressively ground-lean though, and always cruise LOP, which probably helps.
