I'm wondering the same thing. I haven't changed hoses during the period in question, so there's no record that I changed them since 2007. But is a non-record of change sufficient? Maybe by inspection per the MSB. Annual in a couple of weeks.

My read on the AD is that there is nothing to do unless you have one of the "affected" parts, as defined in the MSBs from Diamond. The MSBs list a bunch of invoice and tracking numbers where Diamond sold or installed hoses from these 2 defective batches. So... the trick seems to be proving that you do not have parts purchased against one of those invoices. The earliest one was July 13, 2017, and the latest was Feb 26, 2019, so if you didn't replace your fuel interconnect hoses - or buy a DA40 built - during that interval, you can't have a problem. But, if you did... well, I guess you need to trace your hoses back to the invoice from Diamond and compare the numbers.

In my case, I replaced mine in December 2018, so I definitely fall into the possible problem group. But my shop checked their invoice for the hoses and said it was not on the list, so I guess I am ok. I'm thinking I probably need some documentation from my shop, though, showing that my hoses are not "affected" - that's the part that is still not clear.

Interesting question. There have been a number of ADs on our airplane model that are NA on my particular airframe because of dates, equipment, or other factors. A few specific examples were fuel pumps (AD 98-18-12) - NA by part number, fuel servo diaphragm (AD 2012-03-06) - NA because part was not installed on my aircraft, and wing spar bonding (AD 2009-07-14) - NA by aircraft SN.

My routine on ADs (and SBs) that do not apply to my airframe is to review them with my A&P/IA at annual time, and he typically makes some notation like "all ADs complied with". But, do you have to "comply" with an AD that does not apply to your aircraft? Can an owner/operator make the determination that a particular AD does not apply based on an obvious criterion such as date of manufacture or aircraft serial number?

It could get really ridiculous if my A&P/IA had to inspect my aircraft to confirm that it didn't have the Garmin G1000 to which a new AD was issued...

I believe credit is only for aircraft still under warranty.

The AD applies to any hose replacement parts regardless of aircraft year depending on the invoice and date they were purchased from Diamond - so all DA40s have to at least see if they had hoses replaced with bad parts. Also note that some DA40NGs came with bad parts from the factory listed in a separate DA40NG MSB. In fact there are three MSBs, DA40, DA40F and DA40NG.

I had my wings off to fix some static bonding issues with the fuel tanks in 2015. As another owner did - I had all the lines replaces as the wings were already off and the additional labor/parts was reasonable. That was an easy decision.

I'm not affected due to the year - bur for my logbooks I am asking my shop to send me a copy of the invoice for the hose parts from Diamond just to be fully documented.

Estimates from FAA on 85/hour and total cost of 1400 is way too low for anyone using a Diamond certified shop at least on the coasts.

Hope no one here is impacted !!!

I have a 2005 and never had the hoses replaced. I have a boroscope so any instructions how to get into the wing to inspect the hoses?

Steven:

On my aircraft, with 40 gallon tanks, there is an access panel directly under the interconnect hoses:

We inspect these at each Annual. Not sure if the 50 gallon tank versions have inspection panels under the interconnect between the outer and middle tanks.

Steve: I do have same installation, (2003, 40 Gal, original hoses) they look like new, and I check it every at annual inspection. But how is the borescope inspection possible … inside of the tube ?

I don't use a borescope for that (although I just got one that interfaces with my iPhone), we just use a dental mirror and flashlight to examine the external portions of the hose. If your borescope is long enough, and fuel resistant, I guess you could look at the interior via the fuel filler...

Correct. If you check out the photos in the actual MSB you can see that examining the edges/ends of the hose you can tell if it might be a candidate.
