Comm 1 Failure

Post by Charbie »

It would receive but not transmit. Avionics shop switched comm radios. Checked Antenna and connections, next is to send it out to Garmin for repair. I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas before I commit to the $2000 service.
Is this the going rate to send to Garmin for repair and return same unit?
Any advice is appreciated.

When you send your unit into Garmin for flat-rate repair, they immediately send you someone else's already-repaired unit to reduce the time that your aircraft is out of service. With G1000 LRUs, you might get back a unit originally from a Mustang Jet, a C172, or something in between -- loaded software will customize the LRU for use in your DA40.

The flat rate exchange is something like $1400.

Are you saying that when they swapped the GIAs the problem followed it?

Correct. I'm being quoted $1900.

Will it work from either seat? If only one seat won't transmit, it could be the PTT switch.

Of course, if comm 2 works, PTT isn't the problem. And since you say you switched comm units, I presume that rules out the audio panel and the usual deal of re-seating the unit.
