Need a broker to sell my DA40

Post by 40flyer »

Moving to Denver and I need to sell my 2005 DA40. Can’t find a hangar at KAPA or KBJC but I need a faster TC airplane anyway. Anyone know a good broker I can use? Airplane is in SW Michigan.

Why use a broker? I sold my 2008 XLS at a substantial profit without one. There are so few good DA40's on the market I cannot imagine you will need need to give away the $$'s to a broker when the buyer will likely be looking on Trade a Plane or Controller.

If it was a Cirrus or similar where there are many, many more on the market, that might be a different story.

I just don't know how brokers add much value to the seller in this market.

Don, if you do decide that you really do need a broker, I would recommend Mike Farley from Premier. He is in Florida, but in my experience a very decent gent to do business with. PM me if you need his contact details. All these guys carry a list of folks looking for, or potentially interested in a DA40, however again I would think if someone is serious about buying a DA40, they are on Controller every other day seeing what is popping up.

As a "3-Diamond" member, you are welcome to post your plane for sale in the Classifieds section on this site for free. It won't get nearly as many eyeballs as Controller, but we have a fair number of people registering as Provisional Members saying they are be interested in purchasing a DA40 someday.

I bought mine through Airmart in Lexington. Saw it on Controller, and noticed in the photo that it appeared to be on my home field in Utah. They were pretty good to work with. And since it was on my home field, I have now become friends with the seller.
That being said, I know there are buyers out there looking for 2005 era DA40’s because Airmart is always asking me if I want to sell.

I recently used aerospacereports.com and had a smooth transaction. They did the escrow and paper work. Another solution would be to put the Supercharger STC on it and keep the plane. ForcedAeromotive is based at KAPA.

LifeStyle also sold my plane (after taking it in trade for the DA42 I was buying from them). And they sold a friend's DA40XLS soon after. Both sales were painless. Oddly, both planes passed their pre-buy inspections great and then needed substantial work in the first year of ownership.

Long-time lurker, first-time poster. I'm a part of a flying club in in SE Michigan that's actively looking to add a DA40 to our fleet, so I'm particularly interested in this thread. If you have details on your plane, including pictures, airframe/engine times, and ideally maintenance logs, I'd be very curious to take a look. We're looking at planes all over the country at the moment, so one that's located a little closer to home is certainly appealing.

Thanks in advance, hope to hear from you soon!

Don't bother with a Broker. They don't know these airplanes. There are so few airplanes on the market you should be able to easily sell it as long as it is priced correctly. Put an advertisement of Barnstormers and the Controller.
