I am planning to install the gtx 335r in my da40 as ads b out solution, wanted to check and see if any members have installed the 335 and ball park numbers for total install cost.

Re: Da40 Gtx 335R install
Hi John,
There are several threads about GTX3x5R installation.

From what I saw from the other owners' report, the ballpark for 345R is $9,000 ~ $12,000. So 335R should be bit lower.
I installed 345R for $12K, which seemed to be higher than the others. (nothing special in the installation, but the quote was simply higher)

This is one option (although not the cheapest):

It does have the advantage of approved data (it is covered by a Diamond Service bulletin).

Re: Da40 Gtx 335R install
Garmin quotes $5,000 for the 345R. Did you have to pay more than $5,000 (e.g., the internal GPS model is $6,000) or was there $7,000 in labor?

Re: Da40 Gtx 335R install
Hi Russ,
Parts $6,500 (GTX345R and Comant GPS/XM antenna)
Labor $5,200 (flat rate)
Total about $12k (incl. tax)
I believe they finished in 3~4 days, so labor $5,200 was too high. But it was a flat rate.
@John
I don't know anybody installed the antenna in the front panel or tailcone.
Mine is in the aft fuselage where XM antenna was installed.

Re: Da40 Gtx 335R install
Hey John, you are not located terribly far from me (2 hour flight). In November I had installed the GTX-345R with internal WAAS, and a GPS/XM dual antenna (replaced existing similar looking antenna on top of fuselage) all for $9300 from Ron Collins located at KEHR in Kentucky. They did a great job, no problems, took a solid week. The new transponder comes with the encoder. The GTX33 is completely removed. I’ve found $9K is the norm for the 345 install with internal GPS. The 345 is $1k more than the 335, and I personally think its worth every penny. The traffic on the MFD (and PFD inset) is spectacular. I think Collins is currently booking into June. I was the 4th or 5th DA40 they’ve done.

Re: Da40 Gtx 335R install
Do any members happen to know whether the da40's that dont have a gdl69 still have the shelf that is used for the antenna in the tailcone?

Re: Da40 Gtx 335R install
I don't remember the specific details on the "shelf" but IIRC, for my GTX345 install they said they installed a GPS antenna in the position that the GDL69 antenna would've been and it seemed to be a straightforward process. (I do not have the GDL69) I think they said that if it does have the GDL69 antenna, it could be swapped out for a combo XM/GPS antenna.
