Flightstream 510

Post by jbrauertn »

Sorry if I missed it, but has Fightstream 510 ever been approved for the DA62? The last I heard about it was about a year ago. Thanks!!

I understand that this is imminent along with the 345 transponder certification.

The question is whether existing G1000 NXi DA62s -- all of which are currently NXi Phase I with GIA63Ws -- will have to be upgraded to G1000 NXi Phase II hardware (including GIA64Ws, GEA71B, and the new Bluetooth/3D audio panel) in order to support the FlightStream 510 card and/or GTX345R ADS-B In transponder. For DA40NG and DA42-VI aircraft, NXi Phase II hardware/software is required for the FlightStream 510 wireless card (but not the GTX345R), so I wouldn't be surprised if this may also apply to the DA62. I hope not...

Prior to delivery of DA62.115, additional wiring was installed to accommodate the, to be installed, GTX345R ADS-B In transponder, pending certification.

Yes, a new Ethernet "High Speed Data Bus" connection must be added that runs between the GTX345R transponder in the DA62 nose equipment rack, and the PFD/MFD area in the instrument panel. The GTX345R includes an additional hardware circuit board and connector (for ADS-B In) that's "missing" on the GTX335R transponder currently installed in all DA62 NXi aircraft.

I don't think any new wiring will be needed for NXi Phase II; swapping of hardware LRUs may be plug and play from a hardware perspective. And of course the FlightStream 510 wireless SDcard just plugs right into the MFD lower card slot.

Just prior delivery, additional wiring was installed to accommodate, what I understand, will be a different connector for the 345 compared to that of the old transponder.

Will keep you updated.

Thanks for all the info everyone! Our plane is serial number 62.C005 manufactured in the London, Ontario facility. I'm not sure if that changes any of the potential wiring/hardware modifications mentioned, but I'll certainly be watching and hoping the capability becomes a reality in the near future!

Hi!

I know someone with a DA42-VI and NXI Phase 1 components who has the new firmware and can use the FlightStream 510. Diamond has promised us this functionality for a DA62 with NXI Phase 1 components as well.

Regards,
Jan

I am not aware of the hardware "Phases". I could swear the first DA62 rolled off the line with FlightStream 510 compatibility, but recently discovered I was wrong because there is no page on the G1000 to pair it on older models. I do know that I've seen DA62s with them fully functioning, so I believe it's just a matter of updating to the latest software. Software updates are probably the second most overlooked item (the first being the AFM :p)

See this thread for the latest info on the FlightStream 510 and other hardware/software for DA62's G1000 NXi:
viewtopic.php?f=18&t=7126

The ability to use a FlightStream 510 card with a DA62 has never been provided -- the DA62 is still missing the requisite software/certification.

The DA42-VI has had the ability to use the FlightStream 510 for most of 2019 (I provided demo flights in a new DA42-VI equipped with NXi Phase II at Sun N Fun last April, 2019). DA42-VI software certification is way ahead of the DA62, since the DA42 type certificate is still controlled by Weiner Neustadt instead of London, Ontario.
