DA 62 Best Glide Indicated Speed & Glide Ratio

Post by NDCDA62 »

As a pending DA 62 Owner, I would be grateful if someone could advise:

1. The Best Glide Indicated Speed KT; and
2. Glide Ratio X:1

Many thanks!

I don't know that you're going to find anything official for those numbers. At least in the US, the FAA does not require multi-engine aircraft to have these values established for certification.

Ron is correct. I couldn't find them for my DA42 and my instructor and I just guess for Foreflight's glide advisor.

As noted, there are no published DA62 numbers for best glide airspeed, and glide ratio.

However, I read somewhere that best glide airspeed for most twins lies somewhere between Vx and Vy. Above 1999 kg, this would put best glide for the DA62 between 86 and 89 knots. Best rate of climb 1-engine is also right around there: 87-89 knots.

Many thanks Ron, Colin & Dave - Much appreciated your valued input.

I also read Vy as being close.

Late reply, but some other thoughts on this:

It's a bad day if both engines fail on you and you're gliding in. If both props feather, my guess is that your best glide may yield something like 14-15:1. Pilatus, TBM, Meridian, and Epic are all north of 15:1 largely in part to a feathering prop

The best L/D ratio is normally around blue line. This also generally matches best glide speed.
