Hi all,
Today I had a complete and immediate engine failure during cruise.
It started with vibration, power loss, smoke, and a strong fuel smell, followed by both ECUs failing. The whole sequence from the first sign to total shutdown took about 10 seconds. All engine parameters were perfectly normal before that, and even during those few seconds before it quit completely.
Landed safely — single-engine landing, completely uneventful, thanks to solid training and perfect weather.
This was the same engine that had problems after the piston replacement (about 10 hours ago) and was recently repaired again.
Total AC/ engine time: 85 hours, 8 different problems on the same engine during 85h! 10h after new pistons
Huge thanks to ATC for the calm and professional support throughout the emergency.
We were lucky the weather was good and we were in cruise...
If you think it never happens, it does..
Engine failure

Re: Engine failure
Glad it was in cruise. Sounds like you handled that well.
Hopefully you get back up soon.
Good luck,
Tim

Re: Engine failure
Thank you, good news that it really flies well on single engine, especially when you start at cruise. I will insist on complete engine replacement, its a bit too much for me. This engine seems cursed

Re: Engine failure
For these types of exact events, mental preparation and recurrent ME training is critical.
