Fuel filler cap locking tab direction?

I, too, worried about fuel cap orientation. Happy to report I've flown with fuel caps in every orientation (forwards, backwards, and either side) and I'm still here to tell you about it.

It'll forever be one of those things for us to talk about

Clearly we need to test all possible orientations to figure out which one results in the best performance.

I was quite surprised to see that the IPC clearly shows the tab oriented towards the wingtip. :shock:

As being raised on Air Force Flightline Maint....SPR caps tab, any style cap for that matter, have always faced into the slipstream (tab aft). Teaching my instructors and student pilots to practice the same.

I think that for the cap style at picture you posted, the cap should be put oppositely.

Same here :) but then a guy from Diamond told me that the flap on this cap is designed to go into airstream if positioned forward. There are two types of caps, maybe I didn't see correctly which one is yours.
