European MTOW vs. Canadiam MTOW
Hi Everyone,
I am wondering if anyone has experience on MTOW adjustments (whether or not they're possible). Specifically, the Austrian built DA62s have a certified MTOW of 4,407lbs, whereas the Canadian built DA62s have a certified MTOW of 5,071. My understanding that this is a synthetically lowered number for Austrian built planes due to tax/regulatory implications of aircrafts with an MTOW at or above 2,000kgs. So the question is, can someone with an Austrian built DA62 with a certified MTOW of 4,407lbs get their plane's MTOW re-certified up to 5,071lbs if they move that plane to the US? Apologies if this is a trivial/stupid question.

Re: European MTOW vs. Canadiam MTOW
You get to choose your MTOW if you plan to operate in Europe. I was offered both when I enquired about a plane directly from the Austria factory; I live in a country with no Diamond agent. This is because Eurocontrol do not charge for IFR services if the certified MTOW is less the or equal to 2000kg. Details can be found at https://www.eurocontrol.int/publication ... ns-payment. I was told, albeit by a salesperson, that it is possible to get recertified MTOW. The charges only apply if operating IFR.Fred Claus wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2024 7:08 pm Hi Everyone,

Thank you, Kevin. So it’s probably safe to assume one can just request that the Austrian factory use the higher MTOW without any physical changes to the aircraft?

Re: European MTOW vs. Canadiam MTOW
I have flown many DA62’s in Europe and have never found one with a MTOW of 4,047, I think pretty much all of them are 5,071lb. Don’t just assume that it will be a lower MTOW just because it has an Austrian serial number.

Jim is correct - it is what you order and has nothing to do with where it is built.

Thank you both. I’ll be sure to ask the factory for the highest MTOW.

You can "retrofit" the higher MTOW, at any time, by paying Diamond Austria a small fee for issuing a new certificate.

Re: European MTOW vs. Canadiam MTOW
That makes sense since it’s not a mechanical limit but an artificial one. I confirmed with Diamond and it will be certified to 2,300kg not 1,999kg

Re: European MTOW vs. Canadiam MTOW
It's also an option on the DA62 for European customers who want to avoid additional IFR fees there, which is why the OP was asking about it.
