Aileron Paddles DA40NG

Post by Airmetx »

Hello,

My first post in this forum. I have been instructing in a DA40NG and would like more information on the aileron paddles.

Other suggested that the ailerons of the DA04NG are Frise type and the aileron paddles that extend are part of the Frise Ailerons.

With this info, others have also mentioned that the aileron paddles then assists with more drag to help counter adverse yaw.

At the same time, I read thru the maintenance manual and noticed that the other purpose of the aileron paddles is to assist with mass balancing of the ailerons.

Are these information accurate? I wish the AFM and AMM had more information. I actually emailed Diamond as well but I am not sure if they will respond to such a small question.

Thank you!

Thank you! So basically the aileron paddles are part of the Frise ailerons?

The "paddles" do perform the frise function. But they also contain counterweights for aileron balance.

Thank you ! I see the paddles in the checklist of preflight which is why I thought they were separate from the wings.
