Aux Pump failed?

Post by thommy152 »

Flew our DA62 to Gatlinburg today and found that my left aux pump wasn’t transferring fuel from the aux tank to the main tank. The PFD annunciation was coming on when the aux pump was switched on but no fuel was transferred. Thankfully, between the main tanks, right aux tank and cross feed, I had access to plenty of fuel to complete the flight. Any others pilots had this problem before? On my previous flight, the aux pump worked perfectly. On this flight, I transferred all the fuel out into the main tank with no issue.

Same exact thing happened to me. I had Diamond send me a replacement pump. The left aux pump had burned up and kept turning off due to overheating.

I had a mechanic install the new one and it’s been flawless since. Easy install with just the rear piece needing removal for access.

Thanks for the quick reply. I’ll reach out to my service center tomorrow and see if I can get a new pump on the way.

I had the same symptom, but it was caused by a faulty micro switch indicating the aux tank was already empty.

In my case though, there was no PFD annunciation at all.

I ha\ad a similar issue with my DA62 once. Turned out to be a faulty pump. I had to get that bad boy replaced, but thankfully it wasn't too complicated.

I had the same problem with my left aux pump. Diamond replaced the pump under warranty and it has been problem free ever since.

Had the exact same problem with a DA62 that I fly back in early November. Both aux pumps failed. At first intermittent, then hard fail. The pumps are made in the UK specially for Diamond by a company called Andair. Took many weeks for Diamond Canada to get replacements, with terrible communication. They didn’t reply to any of my emails, or phone calls to ask about status of the replacement pumps. Premier was able to finally get pumps for us.

How were you able to tell there was an issue? Just observing fuel gauges not changing?

Yes, aux gauges didn’t show a decrease, and main gauges didn’t show an increase. Resetting breakers didn’t help. On the ground, with engines off, could not hear the pumps when turned on either.

Yes. No change in fuel levels of aux tank or main tank while running the pump. And on the ground after landing, the aux tank was still completely full.
