Adding built-in Oxygen?

Post by tjmoody »

Hi all - I am currently a Mooney driver working on my ME Commercial Add-On in a school DA-42. I really love the DA-42 and am thinking about trading up once I have my check ride complete.

A question for the group. Has anyone ever investigated or actually done an install of a built-in O2 system to a DA-42 that was not originally delivered with built-in O2? I have owned planes with both built-in O2 (my current Mooney) and not. So I am fine using portable tanks but would rather not if possible. I see a few used DA-42s on the market without built in O2.

Thanks all,

Trevor

Trevor- Here's a link to the Diamond Optional Service Bulletin for adding the oxygen system. They estimate 48 man-hours of labor.

There are multiple threads on here discussing Imogen o2 generators. They might be an alternative to consider.

Many thanks! Both sound like reasonable options.

So far the Oxygen retrofit is considered a factory only option - special jigs etc. are required and it's pretty invasive. IIRC it runs around $15k.

That said, a small portable with a Mountain High O2D2 will greatly outlast the large Diamond bottle without.
