I'm considering putting a new DA40-NG into a club, but the liability insurance is only $2M and more importantly $250K per passenger. The wrong passenger, or the wrong person on the ground, with attorney's fees and $250K is gone very quickly.

Do people have personal umbrella liability policies to back up their aircraft policy?

Yes. But make sure it does not have an aviation exclusion.

Yes. Definitely on the umbrella policy.

Hi Colin -

I have not been able to find an umbrella policy that does not exclude aviation. Who is your underwriter?

I found my aircraft insurance company through my umbrella insurer. It was serendipitously the lowest rate and easiest checkout requirement of all companies that provided a quote.

I don't have it handy, but I *think* it is with Farmers up in Washington state. It was with Allstate in California, but when we bought the place on San Juan Island the California company wouldn't cover events in Washington, but the Washington company had no problem covering things in California.

That was filed under "More things I don't understand."

I have used Lyod's, currently AIG which expires soon, Farmer's is the replacement.
