DA42 vs Fatal Accidents

Post by foup2k12 »

Is there some database/information somewhere when one could access all world-wide (fatal) accidents related to the DA42 (or DA62 if any)? I'd like to run some caparison. Thanks.

For what it's worth the NTSB database shows a total of two DA42 reports, both nonfatal. https://www.ntsb.gov/_layouts/ntsb.avia ... 97dd4c2c70 The first one was in Lancaster, PA where a hard landing resulted in nose gear collapse in 2008, and the second one was in Sweden in 2016 where a DA42 collided with terrain and was destroyed following loss of control during an instructional flight. There were serious injuries, but no fatalities in that one.

There are no DA62 accidents/incidents in the NTSB database.

This one, in plane words, was total stupidity - AFAIR it was flat spin during night training after performing deep stall.

No single database out there is comprehensive. The NTSB database is generally limited to accidents in the US and US-registry aircraft accidents abroad. And most mishaps that happen don't get classified as accidents and so they won't be in the NTSB information.

Many countries don't really report much information. DA40D and -NG and DA42 accidents seem to be much more prevalent outside the US. Aviation Safety Network wiki-page lists many accidents around the world. With the caveat that this is a wiki platform, reports are crowd-sourced and far from complete:

2002 DA40-180: MT, PowerFlow, 530W/430W, KAP140, ext. baggage, 1090 ES out, 2646 MTOW, 40gal., Surefly, Flightstream 210, Orion 600 LED, XeVision, Aspen E5

Thanks, too bad there is no better database. For example I recall last year an accident in Corsica with 4 fatalities and maybe another one in Thailand also with many fatalities, I don't remember exactly. Diamond must surely know exactly about all of that.

Corsica:

Thailand:

The search in this directory reveals 48 incidents/accidents involving DA42, 13 of them with fatalities:

IIRC the one in Corsica was a loss of control/stall on approach.

The one in Thailand a loss of control during single engine return to the airfield with a reported fire. No evidence of fire at the crash site.

I only know of one other fatal DA 42 incident which was a suicide when the pilot deliberately crashed into his parents
house.

Just to add that in these 13 accidents 30 people lost their lives. And relative majority of accidents are related to training which is quite surprising having one (or sometimes two) instructors on board not reacting to prevent the accident.
