Oil usage
Hello All:
I have had my DA42VI since December 20th last year and have so far 120 hours on it. I have only added 1q of oil to each engine since. And after it 100 hr inspection I have not added anything yet. I am use to my none Diesel engines from Continental or Lycoming, to burn 1q every 10 hours even as new engine. Is this normal for DA42 Astro engines not to need any oil added. Or am I missing something.
Thanks

Re: Oil usage
My previous CD-135 engines were using a bit more oil than the new ones. Obviously newer engines have lower oil consumption.

Re: Oil usage
Your diesel engines are so much tighter than the conti. or lic. engines they use less oil overall. it is very possible you could go without needing to add oil between changes.

Re: Oil usage
My experience with my previously-owned DA42-VI, and now DA62 with Austro engines, is that you'll need to add -- at most -- only one liter/quart of oil between 100 hour oil changes.

Re: Oil usage
That's exactly where my DA62 engines were on their first 100 hours. Working on the next 100 now...CFIDave wrote:My experience with my previously-owned DA42-VI, and now DA62 with Austro engines, is that you'll need to add -- at most -- only one liter/quart of oil between 100 hour oil changes.

Re: Oil usage
I can just substantiate what others have already said. My DA42 has about 650 hrs on them and still barely use any oil so far. I think it used about half a quart or less per side after over 30 hrs of use.
