Sounds like you were given bad advice. The Garmin person you talked to must have been thinking of the "legacy" G1000, not NXi. You can't even find 4 GB cards in stores anymore!

You need to use a 32 Gbyte card to load databases into the bottom NXi slots. (BTW, the FlightStream 510 wireless SDCard that isn't yet supported by Diamond's NXI software is also 32 Gbyte.) Unless you use a card that large, there's not room to hold all the new VFR/IFR sectional charts now supported with NXi. And since this loader card doesn't remain in the aircraft during flight it doesn't have to be a Garmin card (i.e., TSOed).

The top MFD slot for recording flight data can be any size.

FWIW, I updated my G1000 NXi for the first time yesterday. I used a 64GB card and had no issues.

Dave and Ron. Thank you for the input. I think you both are correct. And the advice was certainly not correct. I will try the larger cards next. I use two different cards one for Jeppesen data, which I use larger size cards and one for Garmin flight charts. Do you guys download everything on one card?

Thanks

Yes, load all databases on one card for NXi. This is very easy if you subscribed to these databases (including Jepp ChartView) via Garmin's fly.garmin.com website. If you bought the Jepp charts separately via Jeppesen, you'll have to use a two-part process to separately load Garmin vs. Jepp databases on the same loader card.

BTW, your Diamond distributor who sold you a new DA42-VI should have been able to help you with this.

David. Thank you for the input. I dealt with factory. They were not up to date on Nxi.

Thanks
