Is it just me or are the exhausts too short/angled too acutely to the air flow, resulting in exhaust stains down the side of the cowling?
Has anyone designed a modification? I can just imagine after months and years that the stain won’t come off with some polish and elbow grease.

Re: Exhaust staining
After 4 years of ownership, the exhausts on my DA42-VI eventually caused the engine nacelles' white paint ("downwind" of the stack openings) to turn yellow, despite regularly cleaning off the soot. I suspect this was because of heat rather than soot staining.
But with only 100 hours of ownership so far, I've noticed considerably less soot on my DA62 engine nacelles, because the exhaust stacks are positioned slightly further outboard of the nacelles (cowling shape is unchanged). I'm guessing the same change may have been made to your new DA42-VI, so hopefully you'll also get less soot.
As an aside, I read somewhere that the exhaust pipes (identical on the DA42-VI and DA62) are positioned in such a way as to contribute additional thrust in cruise. That doesn't appear to be the case with DA42 TDI or NG models with exhaust pipes that stick out perpendicular to airflow.

Re: Exhaust staining
This is another reason for me to get a DA62.

Re: Exhaust staining
Is there going to be any difference in performance if exhaust gases add to lift instead of thrust?

Re: Exhaust staining
Agreed. Easily the best fix for the soot stains.Colin wrote:This is another reason for me to get a DA62.
