Re: SE-MAD new owner
Congrats Emir! You'll love your DA42. It's just plain fun to fly. And for large parts of Europe, flying on Jet A is positively liberating.
Also very quickly you'll appreciate the operational wonders of turbo performance and FADEC engines...

Re: SE-MAD new owner
Just an update - I made few business trips to my usual destinations (LQSA and LYBE) and one great trip to Calvi, Corsica - pics attached. The experience with aircraft was great, easy to fly (little bit more demanding when hand-flying in IMC), easy to land, performing as expected.

Hi Emir,
Sorry I just missed you at the EuroGA fly-in at Calvi, I came in late on Sunday. Surely we'll meet sometime at some other venue. Say hi to Peter because I understand he'll be visiting you.

Re: SE-MAD new owner
I'm always so impressed when those of you who live in Europe or Asia post your flights over multiple countries. Most of us over here will spend our whole lives never flying outside of our own borders. It's always made to seem such a hassle - special flight plans and customs forms and fees. Yet you guys treat it like we would treat flying from state to state - no big deal!

Re: SE-MAD new owner
In reality it's not a big deal. You just have to start it. The first time is probably the toughest one but then it becomes routine. The real problem is lack of information especially for PPL holders - you can hardly expect to get any info from your instructor and the people in local flying club - they are usualy oriented to flying around the field or short flights to the next field. Luckily there are knowledge available on some forums and people you can get advice from.

Re: SE-MAD new owner
Kai's adventures were the first I read about as far as a single pilot flying a little plane in modern times was concerned. At one point he wrote, "then I put on the uniform, because in the next few places you had to be a captain to be flying a plane..." and I realized there were adventures I had little interest in.
I have crossed this continent sixteen times or so. I feel like I still have a lot of adventure left to find between the coasts. I have not made it to Florida or Idaho yet. I've made a few crossings to the north, which I have really enjoyed, and I would like to make a few trips to Vancouver. When they stop the War on Drugs I will re-join Baja Pilots and explore a little south as well. If I get a second engine I'll try to do the sort of trip that Cary did. That looked great (except for the one day).
The photographs from Australia and South Africa make me want to go down there and rent a plane for a flying safari. The tales of fees for changing your IFR destination don't make me excited about flying in Europe. Maybe it would be different if I did it a few times.
