DA42 Checklist Condensed

Post by bohkmx »

Hi Everybody

I made a condensed checklist for our DA42-VI but it should be the same for NG.
It also covers planes with oxygen and aircon and ice-protection.

Recommended is the print on Photo Paper A5 borderless

Please write if you have any comments. Quite a few things are moved around
to make a faster work flow.

Use at own risk !!

Nice one, Bo!

I reckon all serious aircraft owners customise their own checklists like this over time, emphasizing the stuff that incorporates best into their own flow.

Note, some of your V-speeds are slightly different on the dash-6. (Vr & Vmc are 5 kts lower)

Many thanks for this. I've recently been renting a 2006 DA42 ("NG" converted to Austro engines) in preparation for taking the multi-engine Commercial checkride, so I've been going through the DA42 NG checklist quite a bit lately.

A few suggestions for the condensed checklist:

Under "AFTER TAKEOFF":
- I'd suggest moving the "Climb Power 92%" to after "Gear Up." For safety reasons I think it's better to maintain 100% MAX power until after the gear is up in case of engine failure, and while trying to climb away from the runway and gaining airspeed. 10-20 seconds more MAX power after takeoff shouldn't shorten engine life, given that Diamond has a 5 minute MAX power restriction.
- Why the "Flaps Up" check, since you don't normally use any flaps for takeoff? Approach flaps can be used for short-field takeoffs with a lower rotation speed, but that's not a normal takeoff.

Minor typos:
- Under "READY FOR TAXI AND COPY CLEARANCE", change "Stearing" to "Steering"
- Under "READY FOR DESCENT", change "Full On" to "Fuel On"

I'm still learning the DA42, so I'd appreciate any thoughts on the above suggestions. And I'd love to hear more about your experience as a new "dash 6" owner.

Ok, here we go

1. Check the new way I put it
2. Better to put flaps check there also for the short field takeoff so you do not forget.
3. Steering
4. Fuel fixed

Also changed all / to •

I wrote this one before and also another post about the ECU failure and Alternate air...

In my personalized checklist I have put : 'mobile phones off'. Maybe not a matter of interfering with the avionics (the debate seems to go on), but certainly a destracting nuisance to hear the 'bip-bip-bip' of station- searching phone(s) through your headset.

Sure, on what page you found this in the POM?

In the DA42-VI POH, Section 4A.6.7 TAKE-OFF:
"a) Standard Procedure (Take-off with Flaps UP)" shows a higher 76 knot rotation speed.
"b) Short Field Procedure (Take-off with Flaps APP)" shows a lower 71 knot rotation speed.

This also applies to the DA42-NG, except that the rotation speeds are 80 knots with Flaps UP vs. 76 knots with Flaps APP.

The best rate of climb Vy is lowered from 90 knots to 85 knots for both the DA42-NG and the DA42-VI when flaps are APP.

These speeds are also shown in the latest DA42-NG (and -VI) checklist Edition #16 page 10 from Diamond.

I don't recall takeoff with flaps APP being shown anywhere for Thielert-powered DA42s.
