Re: Trip Report on a DA42-VI Flown by an Owner
Also on the loading question, does the weight of the air conditioning unit help alleviate the nose-heavy balance of Austro-equipped DA42s (due to the engines' heavier cast iron blocks compared to Thielerts)? While Diamond publishes the weight of the air conditioning option, I've never been able to determine how much it affects balance. In my experience, flying an NG model without aircon requires considerable back stick force to rotate on takeoff, as well as to keep the nose from dropping after touchdown on the mains, even with a back seat passenger. I was thinking aircon might help with this.
Do you have the short baggage compartment installed to make room for aircon?
Thanks.

I can not give you my opinion about the ng but the -VI with aircon does not feel heavy during flare. The aircon imposes the short bagagge compartment, plus the unavailability of your adf if installed( yes still using ndb' s down hereCFIDave wrote:Also on the loading question, does the weight of the air conditioning unit help alleviate the nose-heavy balance of Austro-equipped DA42s (due to the engines' heavier cast iron blocks compared to Thielerts)? Welcome, Wilbur! You have a log from a DA42??? How did you get one of those - I didn't think the '42 supported data logging?wilbur87 wrote:By the way can anybody tell me how to avoid the columns error that i get when trying to upload a log.

Sd card on top slot ?.?..?....? It records data at least on VI ' s. The problem is getting the info out without having to resort to a competitor siteRick wrote:Welcome, Wilbur! Welcome Wilbur! Had asked previously, but the other owner didn't respond. In YOUR plane, with aircon etc...exactly how much weight do you have left over for people/bags if you fill the tanks?
Thx
Thx
Eric

I don't know about others, but I have the latest approved software for my DA42 and it does NOT record the data in the top slot. What version of the g1000'software do you have?wilbur87 wrote:Sd card on top slot ?.?..?....? It records data at least on VI ' s. Unfortunately not much some fiddling required, in our case on top of it deice equipped it offsets o bit of cg envelope. The ae 300 fortunately still keep the things contained.Gnomad wrote:Welcome Wilbur! Had asked previously, but the other owner didn't respond.
