Hi all,
I'm sure this is an easy question, though curious if there is a trick or tip. The problem with updating the databases with FlightStream is that you have to restart the avionics for it to complete the process. However, if the engine is not running, you can start to drain the battery. So, my question is, is there a way to restart the avionics without a full shut down and then start up again?
Thanks

Short answer: No
On some other G1000 NXi planes, there's a "restart" softkey on the bottom of the MFD. But not on Diamonds.

The wireless update via the Flightstream is absurdly slow. Using an SD card you'll update in less than 5min, restart, and be finished without amy major impact on your battery.

Re: How to restart avionics when updating G1000NXi databases
I've also switched to the SD card update method after sitting on the ramp for what feels like forever with engines running waiting for the FS510 to update the DB.
As for how, I've pulled the breaker with engines running and/or have turned off the master. If using the SD card, I just turn off the master and turn it back on again. Both seem to work. I always wait several seconds for any capacitors to discharge before turning the system back on.
I've never tried putting in my SD card into the lower slot on the pfd for the update. I always use the lower slot on the mfd. Has anyone else tried the pfd method?
