Hello,
For your information and following some recent tread about the charging issue that I had, I applied a temperature sticker on my battery and today I remove the cowling for the first time.
Verdict : between 140 and 150 degrees Fahrenheit.
Question: is your battery in a case? Mine is directly close to exhaust pipes.
Arnaud.

Re: 28v battery temperature
Mine has a composite case around the battery, painted with the same heat resistant paint as the rest of the cowling interior surface. You can see it in the photo below. The open side toward the camera is closed by the lower cowling.

Re: 28v battery temperature
Steve illustrates the standard installation. In flight, air from the right cowling inlet is forced into the enclosure and flows around the battery. Even when the plane gets shut down the air between the battery and its enclosure shell inhibits heat transfer to the battery by residual hot air from the rear engine compartment. If you want to be especially kind to the battery open the oil filler door for awhile after shutdown to expedite removal of that remaining heat.

Re: 28v battery temperature
Just as a follow up to this post. I changed my oil today, so had the cowling off. The temperature witness sticker had recorded a maximum temperature of 109 deg F or 43 deg C. The monitor period was from April, 2021 to December, 2021. Thus, it included flying through the summer here in S. Texas.
It seems that having the fire shield installed on the battery (together with the ram air cooling) significantly lowers the battery temperature.
