Alternate Air cable screw

Post by waynemcc999 »

Hi, it looks like I'm missing the screw that secures the Alternate Air cable on the engine side. Anyone know the part number, or even better the screw designator (metric or imperial)?
Thanks,
Wayne

Wayne:

It is shown as: 1490 38B "Nipple" in the IPC. My recollection is that is a drilled bolt and a nut, although I don't have any idea as to size. Your shop could likely fabricate something if you cannot get it from Diamond.

Check out this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=8&t=4551&hilit=alternate+air+cable

It is simply a short bolt that screws into the ring, but the ring threads easily strip. I don't recall the exact bolt size, but if your threads in the ring look good, you should be able to trial and error a replacement bolt. If they are stripped, check out the other thread, or simply drill a matching hole 180 degrees around the ring, and tap new threads into it for a matching new bolt. The old connection hole (rotated to opposite side now) will be over a solid area and of no significance.

The typical Ace hardware will have a plate with a bunch of threaded US and metric stud and socket pieces so you can figure out the thread size and pitch if it's any standard one. Technically you shouldn't use any non-aviation parts for this, but at least you'll be informed.
